Today started out later than usual for me since the alarm didn’t get set before going to bed last night. Sleep was glorious though! Even though it was a late morning, I still went out and ran my six miles. Some people would go crazy without music for that long of a distance, but it was quite refreshing just to let my thoughts wander and be free.
When I do my running I try and vary my route so that I’m not doing the same thing every time. Even though the area that I live in is relatively flat ground so almost no elevation at all. And there is construction going around in three separate, but substantial locations within a 3-mile radius of my house.
Still an average of a 10 minute per mile pace. While is a good thing but I want to get it faster.
Also, looks like the scheduling for the 2019 Dopey Challenge will be ready to register April 17, 2018. Get ready!! I’m not going next year, but I plan on training up until the event as preparation for what is to come.
See you on the other side!

Life throws those curveballs that can either make or break a person. I have to break it to you that unfortunately the Dopey Challenge has been slightly changed. I’m taking a slight detour and postponing the finale until January 2022. You read that correctly; two years later than the original goal.
This decision was not made lightly. With any journey, it is a good thing to make sure that it is feasible for everyone involved. The reason why is mainly financial. It just isn’t going to be financially possible.
2018 is so that Husband can finish College
2019 and 2020 are to pay off debts.
2021 is to save for this journey
2022- Dopey Challenge
With the postponement of this journey, there is more opportunity to save for a grand adventure. Plus, on the good side, the boys will be 8 and 10 so they can do the 5K and possibly the 10K with me (or at least Monster can) and Husband can run the Half Marathon with me.
I have more time to train properly with more running, eating, and sleeping. All three things I absolutely love to do anyway, but I want to make sure I don’t hurt myself. More time to prepare my body for the rigorous stress it’s going to endure.
Another plus is that my niece and her guardians are going to plan on coming with us as well in 2022. In a house full of males it would be nice to have a manicure/massage with another female or two. . . All the possibilities.
Not giving up, just another detour.
See you on the other side!
February 4, 2018
I just got back from my long run for the week. 6 Miles. And some even better news I got a couple PR on this training run. Distance, duration, calories burned, and average pace per week.
This is quite an accomplishment, IMO. Even though this is a relatively new year so there are going to be some adjustments made all the time for improvement. I have to say though that the average pace looks mighty desirable for when I accomplish that Dopey Challenge in Walt Disney World in January 2020 and it is finished in under 4.5 hours. But lots of planning to do until then.
After the run, I felt so much more relief because Husband and I got bad news yesterday causing both of us to start stressing. Until the issue is resolved I’m not at liberty to discuss it. But it looks like we might have to pay some $$$. We will see how it goes. Setbacks are bound to happen.
What about all of you? How are your PR going? How did you feel when you broke that record? Tell me about it in the comments.
Guess how many miles I’ll run by the end of February, I only ran 36 in January as a reminder.
See you on the other side.
January 21, 2018
This was the first week back to the world of running. I have got to say that it is phenomenal. Missed it tremendously during OEP. Even though it is only the first week, I can already feel a difference in my body. Even last night Husband mentioned to me how happy I am since I started running again.
Today was only the start of the many long runs that are going to occur during the next few weeks. 5 miles was the distance this morning. It might be the endorphins running through my system but I feel fantastic. Every mile that I run seems to make the worries for the upcoming months a little less stressful and much more manageable. With more “free” time comes more opportunities to just beat the pavement.
I even burned enough calories this morning for a whole bagel. Love those carbs so much. Even though I should probably focus more on the complex carbs instead of simple carbs so that they take awhile to break down and don’t give me the crash later in the day. At least I’m not eating a whole doughnut, or three. . . maybe some other day.
One of the goals towards the Dopey Challenge is to get many miles under my feet as possible before the big race, that is expected to happen in about 713 days, but who’s counting? That is one of those momentous tasks that seems a little overwhelming so I decided to set a “mini” running goal for 2018 of 500 miles. Let’s see what happens by the end of the month.
Does anyone have a guess as to how many miles I will complete by the end of January?
What is a goal of yours by the end of the year? Month? Even if it is just to complete a race, let me know.
See you on the other side.
